Obituary for Rosetta Gilder
Rosetta "Tulum" Gilder was called home to our Lord on September 13, 2022, at Christus Southeast Texas - Jasper Memorial hospital. Rosetta was born on May 16, 1935, in Wells, TX, to Sam and Velma Cooks, who preceded her in death. She was the third born of eight children. Each of her siblings forewent her in death as well. Rosetta later moved to Woodville, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Herman Gilder. To that union was born one child, the late Flora Jean Bronson, and later she gave birth to seven additional children.
At an early age, she joined and was baptized in Pilgrim Rest Baptist church of Woodville, Texas and was adamant about keeping her children in attendance there as well. Rosetta developed strong work ethics at an early age and spent her professional career as a caregiver and domestic helper, performing various roles and functions. Around retirement age she relocated to Jasper, Texas.
Her interests included gardening, cooking, watching old western films, and spending endless time with her family.
By nature, she was very private and reserved and was most proud of her grandchildren (especially little Nolan, her great-great-grandson), which kept a sparkle of joy in her eyes. Her smile and laughter were adored and will be greatly missed.
Rosetta leaves to cherish two sons, Otis Cooks of Cleveland, Texas and Donald Gilder of Jasper, Texas, five daughters, Gloria Tukes and Velma Scott of Jasper, Texas, Lynette Jackson (Hertha) of Humble, Texas, Lennie Lopez (George) of Splendora Texas, Sherry Mitchell of Woodville, Texas, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Rosetta spent her final years in the company of her family, who loved and will miss her.
