Obituary for Patrick Rochelle Grant
Patrick Rochelle Grant, 62, of Newton, Texas passed away Thursday December 14, 2023.
Patrick Rochelle Grant was born July 22, 1961, to Edison Grant, Sr. and Mary Shankle Grant in Newton, Texas. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of St Paul CME Church in the Liberty Community.
Patrick attended Newton Elementary and graduated from Newton High School in 1979 where he played the trombone in the High School Band. He was an awesome athlete in baseball, basketball, football and still holds the Newton High School record in the High Jump for track and field. He also continued his education at the University of Houston – Downtown majoring in engineering. He worked in construction for many years and briefly worked as a maintenance engineer at the Atrium Hotel & Suites in Irving, Texas where he received employee of the month awards multiple times for his hard work and friendly customer service.
Speaking of being friendly, Patrick was always the comic relief no matter where he was. He was an avid storyteller and his stories never got old no matter how many times he told the story. He loved music and had a vast collection of albums, tapes, and CD’s. Also, he was known as Santa’s helper and made an appearance every Christmas to hand out gifts to the children in our family. He was the world’s greatest and funniest Santa Clause.
Patrick leaves to cherish his memories: his parents Edison Grant Sr. and Mary Shankle Grant; one sister Viki Grant-Gatson, Arlington, Texas; two brothers Edison Grant Jr. (Brenda) Arlington, Texas and Stephen Grant, Conroe, Texas; two nephews, Edison Grant III and Julius Grant Gatson; four nieces, Marian Gatson, Ashley Gatson, Alicia Gatson and E’lexas Grant; eight great nieces Malia and Justice Hines, Bella, Bailey, Brooklyn and Brea Emanuel, Braelynn and Brynnlee Gatson; one great nephew Jaden Hines; great-great niece Harmony Motley and great-great nephew ElShaddi Motely Jr.; four aunts Zerlene Black, Bobbie Chapman, Helen Shankle and Rosa Lewis; five uncles Harold Shankle, David Shankle, Ulysses Grant, Charles Smith and Larry Smith; three awesome men that he loved like brothers, Jessie Samuel (Brenda) Newton, Texas, Ronnie Gosey (Bonita) Biloxi, Texas, Bishop Sammy Nash (Sharon) Biloxi, Texas, and a host of family and friends.
