Obituary for Mose LaVall Marshall

Mose LaVall Marshall transitioned from this life on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He was born the second child to Oliver Bernard Marshall and Juanita Mozelle Berry-Marshall
on Sunday, January 21, 1951

He accepted his Christianity at an early age at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church, Chester, Texas under the leadership of the Reverend Bryant Hubert. He attended public schools at Chester Colored School and Chester High School, Chester Texas. He was a trailblazer during the integration period. He was in the original group of students that were transitioned from the Chester Colored school (Bulldogs) to Chester High School (Yellow Jackets). He played a number of sports. He attended Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas (1969-1973). He served in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at Prairie View A&M University while studying in his chosen field of Industrial Technology Engineering. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Engineering. He graduated from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant.

After graduation He was employed as an educator at Kansas City Public School District, Kansas City, Kansas. Years later He relocated back to Texas and made his residence in Houston Texas. He was employed as an educator in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) for many years. He transitioned years later from the education industry. He was employed at The Wall Street Journal and The Houston Post until retirement.

Mose served as a fatherly role model to many of his nieces, nephews and cousins. Some referred to him as “Big Daddy”. He made his home available at any time to family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Bernard Marshall and Juanita Mozelle Berry-Marshall, brothers; Gus Lynn Marshall and Oliver Lewis Marshall.

Mose is survived by his sisters; Rennie Loyce Chaney (Houston, Texas). Juanita Vannetta Marshall (Houston, Texas) and Faye Dell Marshall (Royse City, Texas), brother; Aubrey Neal Marshall, Sr. (Houston, Texas), sister in law; Carolyn Marshall (San Augustine, Texas), a wealth of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, dedicated best friend and brother for more than fifty years, George Standley, devoted best friend and life long partner for many years, Antonia Smith, bonus family inherited from his life partner and a host of family and friends.
