Melvin Thomas was born to Roosevelt & Carrie Thomas on January 4, 1936, in Timpson, Texas. Melvin attended school in the Liberty Community. At an early age, Melvin joined King Chapel CME Church, where he was a member for several years. Later, he joined Rigmaiden Chapel CSHC.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Carrie Thomas, and one sister, Helen Hartsfield.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Sharon Spikes (Timothy) of Burkeville, Texas; a God-Daughter, Alice White (Cecil) of Kirbyville, Texas; one brother, Willie Ray Thomas (Betty) of Pensacola, Florida; 2 Grandchildren, Daphanie Spikes of Shankleville, Texas and Timothy Spikes, Jr., of Lufkin, Texas; one aunt, Willie Lee Thomas of Timpson, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
