Obituary for James Barclay
James Barclay, 73, of Hillister, Texas departed this life January 18, 2023.
James Roosevelt Barclay was born on Aug 19, 1949, to the late Charles Rudolph Barclay and Etta Thelma McKindley Barclay. He was third in the line of eight children to this blessed union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosie Bean, and grandson Dontrell Zenn.
James was baptized early and became a long-time member of Little Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board. He graduated from Scott High School in Woodville in 1967. Shortly after graduating, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in Vietnam. He met his future wife, Carrie Irvin, in 1971, and they married in 1992. They made their home and raised their family in Hillister. He retired from Warren Independent School District in 2019.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie; 4 sons: Derek, Chris (Kiara), James “Bug” (Kiki), and Kevin (Ashley); 5 daughters: LaTunya “Babay,” Lavonda “Chelle,” Demetrius (Vincent), Denise “Joy,” (Shaun) and Lashaunda; Sisters: Charlene, Marilyn, Thelma, Glenora (Dandy), Lynn, and brother Charles (Tonkie); 2 maternal aunts, 20 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
