Obituary for Irene Amacker

Irene Mitchell Amacker was born October 10th, 1917 in Arkadelphia, AR to Henry and Mattie Walsh Mitchell. She married Otis Mitchell December 24th, 1937. To this union, two children were born.

Otis and Irene moved to Woodville, Texas in 1945 to work in the sawmill. The first church they joined after moving to Woodville was New Pilgrim Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Virge Hadnot.

Otis passed away February 18, 1950 in Galveston Texas. Irene moved from the sawmill quarters into her new home on Hyde Street in 1960. She then united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church which was closer to her. The pastor at that time was Rev. Copes. She was not just an occasional attendee, but she served faithfully in several ministries until her health failed and she was taken to live with her daughter.

Irene fearlessly served her community in an attempt to make things better. She worked tirelessly with the Cancer Society and sold numerous tickets for the Rotary Club’s annual chili supper. She was on the board of the Housing Authority, and a member of the Tyler County Hospital Auxiliary.

She married Tim Amacker in 1969 and instantly added three more children to their family: Jimmy (deceased) Roy Lee, and Kathie Faye.

Left to cherish her precious memories are two children Jewel Mitchell Clebourn and Otis Mitchell, Jr. (Billie), five grandchildren Valerie Mitchell, Kemper Mitchell, Erika Hall, Otis Mitchell III (Juanita), and Justin Mitchell (deceased), six great grandchildren, two stepchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a loving church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings; David, Henry, Wilkie, Charlie, Edgar, Daisy, Callie, Fairy, and Mattie Mae.
