Obituary for Glenn Edward Matthews Jr.

Glenn Edward Matthews Jr., affectionately known as “BoBo” or ‘King Bo”, as he liked to call himself, was born January 22, 1985, in Kountze, Texas. BoBo was born to high school teenagers Elma Thomas (daughter of Doletha Thomas) and Glenn Edward Matthews Sr.

Bobo was a perfect example of “It takes a village to raise a child”. Glenn E. Matthews Jr was raised in the home of his grandparents Deacon Carl and Gladys Matthews Sr., with the abundance of help from two special aunts Tonya Matthews Moffett (Craig), Tahita “BaeBae” Matthews West (Arthur), his uncle Carl Matthews Jr., and his parents Rev. Glenn E. Matthews Sr and Shelia Matthews.

Glenn Jr graduated from Kountze High School in 2003. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was an active member of Greater Mt. Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.

Glenn Jr began his career of working at the age of 16, with his first job at Brookshire Brothers and later went to Walmart before locating to Lufkin, Texas, where he obtained his CDL license. He was a driver for numerous companies over the next 12 years. He returned home in 2018 with the love of his life DeShonda Durrett to be closer to family. He was employed with Giglio Distributing as a delivery driver until he was called home on November 16, 2021.

BoBo enjoyed life and his hobbies, included riding his four-wheeler, motorcycle, playing basketball, and visiting everyone throughout the community. He loved to talk and reminiscence of old times.

Glenn Jr is preceded in death by his very special and beloved sister Anishia Rochee’ Matthews as well as other close relatives.

Glenn Jr “BoBo” leaves to cherish his memories, long-time companion, and fiancé DeShonda Durrett. Four brothers George Melvin (Melissa), Daniel Glenn, Carl Glenn, and Jeremiah “Baby Boy”. Four sisters Danita (Tre), Vonda, Shawquenterria, and Lillian (Joseph). He also leaves a very special cousin DJ Richardson and seven nephews and two nieces. As well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends that will truly miss him.

BoBo was loved by all who knew him. “He never met a man that he couldn’t call his friend.” He carried that motto of his great grandfather with him always. His affectionate smile and personality will be greatly missed.
