Obituary for Gladys Arline (Gipson)

Mrs. Gladys Gipson was born June 6, 1923, in Spurger, TX to Reverend Onness and Bertha (Jeffcoat) Gipson. She attended public school in Spurger, Tx. Gladys accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She united with The East Chapel Church. She later united with Little Baptist Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her father, the late, Reverend Onness Gipson and was baptized in the Tutalem Creek.

She married Ezra Arline in June of 1946 and to this union 4 children were born. Her father had prophesied to her that all her children would be musically talented. Her father’s desire for her to better her life was to move to California and pursue a career as a gospel artist. She and a friend Daisy Hawkins was approached by a promoter, Don Robey of Peacock Records, but they decided not to accept his offer.

Her life as a musician and singer began at an early age. She played for many churches for over 65 years until she retired. She never met a stranger, and people enjoyed being in her sweet presence. She was a giving person, people were drawn to her magnetic personality and she loved her family. She was a true friend and gained a multitude of friends and admirers through her lifetime.

She was honored by State Representative White on her 90th birthday with a resolution in the Texas House of Representatives. He honored her for her long life and service to the Lord. She was blessed with four children whom she inspired to become musicians and singers. Her family has grown to include five generations of descendants. She was respected and admired by all who was privileged to know her. She not only loved music, but she loved to watch Wrestling. She even had her own signature move “The Hammer”.

She transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, February 26, 2022. She was preceded in death by, her husband Ezra Arline,her father and mother, Brothers Lindberg Gipson & Sidney Jack Gipson. Sisters, Vivian Hadnot & Choice Gipson. Son, Ezra Arline. Granddaughter, Taletra Gray & Great Grandson Tairen Rigsby.


She leaves to cherish her memory and live out her legacy 3 daughters, Carolyn Gray (Ernest), Marilyn Barnett (Wilbert T), & Bertha Arline-Mitchell (John). Her extended family also included children, Doris Tubbs (Collie), Jospehus Arline-deceased (Emma Lee), John Henry Arline, & Dorothy Kiel. Grandchildren, Keith Kiel (Jennifer), Deidre Kyle, Germaine Singleton (Heather), Chaddrick Traylor, Tadesha Rigsby (Tomoca), Tiara Limbrick, Andrus and Lathan Fisher. Great Grandchildren, Kendra Kiel, Jasmine Spears, Chantel Kiel, Christopher Gray, Trenton, Trinity, Tranece, Issac, & Tristen Singleton, Kristopher, Nikolas & Jaythan Traylor, Ta’ Miyah & Marlee Rigsby, Tyler & Haley Limbrick and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special Friends, Mrs. Lois Busby and the Sloan family.
