Obituary for Gertrude Laura Trottie (Darden)

Gertrude Laura Trottie (Darden), 89, of San Augustine, Texas transitioned to glory Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

On November 30, 1932 in Barnes, Texas, a baby girl was born to Samuel and Naona (Marshall) Darden and they named her Gertrude Laura. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. Gertrude was an avid reader and read the bible continuously and was very knowledgeable to the point of teaching bible lessons at her church. She was also very dedicated to the church conferences each year. Sister (as she was called by her siblings) graduated from Chester High School and attended Franklin Beauty School in Houston, Texas. Because of problems with her hands she was unable to pursue a career in that field.

Later she met and married Elbert Trottie and eventually relocated to San Augustine, Texas (Elbert's hometown) because of his business in logging. Elebert preceded her in death.

Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory; a daughter: Josette Trottie; two grandchildren: Anthony Jackson, Jr. and Brittany Jackson, seven great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister; Patricia Darden-Conner and five brothers: James Darden, Charles Darden, Clyde Darden, Jack Darden and Glenn Darden, a goddaughter, Remonia Darden and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A special thanks goes out to a very special niece and her husband, LaNetta and Jerome Cutwright who loved and cared for her dearly and always willing to go above and beyond for her.
