Obituary for Billie Jean McCray

Born Billie Jean Jones on June 7, 1940 to the late N.D. Jones and the late Evilee Wade in San Augustine,TX. She was adopted as an infant by the late Lee McCoy and the late Josephine Jones-McCoy and raised in Jasper Tx.

Billie Jean attended Jasper schools and graduated with her beloved J.H.Rowe Class of 1959. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.

Billie Jean married the late Henry Lee McCray in June 1962. She worked numerous occupations until health issues forced her into retirement. She could be heard on many occasions mentoring and consoling many of her friends who were stricken with cancer.

Affectionately called BJ by some and Ms. Billie by others, she was the life of any room she entered. Laughter was indeed her medicine. She enjoyed having company around to keep her spirits lifted. She adored her 5 children more than anything. She was a vital part of her grandchildren’s upbringing. She enjoyed the “noise” that kept her going. Even when her grandkids were of adult age she enjoyed the great grandkids, she was especially fond of Palin.

Billie Jean was preceded in death by her adopted sister, Willie Lee Dorsey, Fred Dorsey and Freddie Dorsey as well as her grandson, Stephon Wayne Landry.

More than anything, Billie Jean loved her children.

She leaves to cherish her memories five children: Lester (Scherita) McCray of Jasper, O’Donoghue (Stacey) McCray of Baytown,TX, Janice( John) Sells of Jasper, Von Eric McCray of Houston, TX, and Stephanie (Khadevis) Robinson of Columbus, Ohio. 11 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren
