Obituary for Annie Margrette Hawthorne (Monroe)

Annie Hawthorne, 86, of Jasper, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.


She was born on September 11, 1937, to the late Herman T Monroe and Audrey Mae Land Monroe.

Sister Hawthorne accepted Christ at an early age. She joined under the leadership of Rev. Harvey Peacock at New Bethel Baptist Church and later joined Peaceful Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Wilson and later Rev. Daniel Stafford. Throughout the years, this humble and quiet servant stood steadfast and faithful in the church in various auxiliaries (Church Secretary and Women’s Mission and Choir) until her health began to fail.

She attended Public School and graduated from J.H. Rowe in Jasper, Texas, in 1956. She later attended cosmetology classes in Beaumont, Texas. She worked doing private home duties until her health failed.

She united in holy matrimony to Harvey Taylor Hawthorne on July 28, 1962, and to this union, eight children were born, of which one son: “Baby Hawthorne,” preceded her in death.

Sister Hawthorne was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Audrey Monroe, daughter Melinda Monroe Blount; four brothers, Holman Sheppard, Jr., James Monroe, Willie Monroe, and Eugene Monroe; two sisters, Dorothy Holmes and Mary Ashworth.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and dedicated husband of 61 years, Harvey T. Hawthorne; two daughters Karen White (Patrick) of Huffman, Texas, Erica Vidito (Jonathan) of Jasper, Texas; four sons Harvey J. Hawthorne (Analisia) of Jasper, Texas, Darryl Hawthorne (Monica) of Dallas, Texas, Marcus Hawthorne (Onraette) of San Antonio, Texas and Terrence Hawthorne (Stephanie) of Jasper, Texas. Special Son, Fredrick Renfro of Buna, Texas, and a Special Daughter, Reyeshia Wysinger of Houston, Texas. Three sisters, Lucetta Monroe Malone and Helen Monroe, both of Dallas, Texas, and Edna Macklin of Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Earnest Monroe (Blendia) of Jasper, Texas, and Jessie Earl Monroe (Connie) of Balch Springs, Texas.
Special Nieces: Linda Smith of Jasper, Texas; Keitha Hamilton (Roy) of Red Oak, Texas; Rayfonette and Wanda Smith of Memphis, Tennessee. Thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.
